Gift Season: Hats, hats, and more hats! Part One of Three

A friend of mine asked me to crochet two hats recently, one for her grandmother and the other for her grandfather. I was more than delighted to do so since I have found out I absolutely love to crochet. =)
So... if she wants two hats, why are there three parts?
Simple! The boyfriend saw the hats and immediately wanted one as well, and I think a few other little ones might be in need of a hat and maybe a sister-in-law or two! =)

series, this hat, 'the Grandmother,' is made from a beautiful, rich plum colored wool.  It is quite large, but not too loose when sitting on the head - Not to mention soft and warm!
