Supplies Needed:
2 Sheets of yellow craft felt (more if you need more petals, this is for 5)
1 Sheet of brown craft felt
1 1/4 yard of brown satin ribbon
1 roll of batting (quilting quality)
Heavy craft wire
Skirt
3 Yards of green tulle (ideally, the small roll from Joann's)
1 Yard of satin green ribbon
Directions for the hat:
1. Print out template for the petals
2. Cut out the small and large petal
3. Cut out the pieces from the yellow felt, and from the batting as well
4. Sew them around the edges, wrong-side-out, leaving the fuller bottom half open
5. Turn right-side-out
6. Stuff with batting
7. Shape the wire to fit to the sides of the petal, stick in through the opening
8. Sew a seam down the center, stopping approximately 3/4 of an inch from the bottom, then sew a "v" shape at the bottom
9. Sew across the bottom, leaving an opening on either side (a wire will need to fit through here)
10. Once all of the petals are complete, put a piece of wire through, connecting them together closely
11. Sew the petals together closely, so they are slightly overlapping each other
12. Cut a 1" by 6" strip of brown felt (depending on child's head size, this is for a newborn/infant)
13. Fold upwards over the bottom of the petals, covering the seams, sew shut, leaving an opening on either end of space in between for the ribbon to be fed through
14. Thread the satin ribbon through
15. Add a piece of wire after the ribbon to have more support for the petals and shape of the hat
Directions for the skirt:
1. Unravel 3 yards of the tulle, layering them in yard length
2. Pin the tulle across the top, making sure all of the layers are even and together
3. Basting stitch across the top
4. Pull the side and bunch up the skirt as much as you want
5. Sew the satin ribbon with a straight stitch across
6. Hold the two ends of the ribbon up to each other, fold over, and cut diagonally for a cute and neat finish!
